Mullinax named Executive Director for Military Affairs

Jimmy Mullinax has been named Executive Director for Military Affairs. In this new role, Mullinax is responsible for the overall development and enhancement of university services for veterans and military-connected students, including educational benefits, transitional support, and programs and activities enhancing learning, well-being and success.

Mullinax has provided support to Clemson's military community across multiple positions since returning to his alma mater in 2012. His official start date is August 5

"Jimmy is no stranger to Student Affairs as a valuable member of our Campus Recreation team, but he has also been one of Clemson's strongest advocates for veterans and military-connected students," says Assistant Vice President and Senior Associate Dean of Students Kimberly Poole. "We look forward to his integration with our team in Military & Veteran Engagement and continuing the great work done on behalf of this important student population."

Mullinax retired from active duty in 2012, achieving the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Army. His career began and ended in Clemson's Army ROTC program, first as a cadet and then as professor and chair of the Military Leadership department (2012-16) - where he was responsible for training the newest generation of officers. During his distinguished 21-year military career, he also served on assignments in South Korea, Germany and Iraq.

He has been an active member of Clemson Corps since 2012. He held a number of executive positions, including chairman of the board. His responsibilities included advising, fundraising, advocacy and special event planning.

Mullinax has worked in Student Affairs since 2016, starting as a maintenance manager at the Snow Family Outdoor Fitness and Wellness Complex. Over the last seven years, he has served as director of facilities and operations for Campus Recreation. He has been responsible for the management of 230,000 square feet of space at the Swann Fitness Center at Fike and Douthit Hills recreation facilities. He managed a full-time staff of seven employees and a large group of student assistants.

Mullinax earned a bachelor's degree in industrial management from Clemson in 1994 and a master's degree in military operational art and science from Air Force University in 2010.

"I am honored to be selected to be the first Executive Director of Military Affairs," Mullinax says. "I have been working with and supporting Clemson's military community for 12 years and am excited to be able to work full-time to enhance the support provided to our military-connected students as well as raise awareness of Clemson's long military heritage that started at our founding."
