All is Well: Water to Thrive Digs TLU’s Tenth Well in Rural Ethiopia

This past April, TLU's Water to Thrive Student Club joined with the Center for Servant Leadership and Spirit of Joy Lutheran Church to host a benefit for Water to Thrive, a nonprofit that partners with organizations like TLU to fund and dig water wells for communities in rural Africa, where millions of people are affected by drought, waterborne disease, and pollution. The cost to dig a well is $5,000, and a single well can serve around 500 people.

The Water to Thrive Student Club has been working to raise funds for this worthy cause for 14 years, and with donations from this year's benefit, was able to sponsor its tenth well-currently being constructed in the West Dembia region of Ethiopia-and to make a start toward an eleventh well.

"We look forward to our continued partnership and are so proud of TLU's Water to Thrive Student Club," says Director of Service Learning and Career Development Dr. Pamela Ray. "They are examples of the institution's mission of being dedicated and committed servant leaders."

The West Dembia well is due to be completed in early 2025.
