Fargo Public Library to Host "Prepare with Pedro" Events for Kids

Sessions are scheduled at all three library locations

09/03/2024

September is National Preparedness Month and the library is hosting several youth preparedness events to teach kids in a fun and educational way, how to be prepared and take action for either home fires or a local hazard. The American Red Cross has developed a series of stories and trainings for kids using Pedro - a penguin who loves learning about how he can be prepared and take action during an emergency to help stay safe - as the tool to help kids with these concepts.

Sessions are set for the following library locations, dates and times:
• Main Library:
o Wednesday, Sept. 4, starting at 6:30 p.m.
o Thursday, Sept. 5, starting at 2 p.m. (pre-registration is required for this session)
o Friday, Sept. 6, starting at 2 p.m. (pre-registration is required for this session)

• Dr. James Carlson Library:
o Saturday, Sept. 7, starting at 10 a.m.

• Northport Library:
o Monday, Sept. 9, starting at 6:30 p.m.

Specially-trained American Red Cross staff will introduce Pedro with a story and facilitate activities designed to help kids learn basic preparedness concepts, including how to remain calm in stressful situations. These events will focus on fire safety. Kids of all ages are welcome; however, the sessions are geared for kids in Kindergarten through 2nd grade. These events are free, and all materials will be provided. For more details, contact the Children's Services Department at 701.241.1495 or email [email protected].

Fargo Public Library events are free and open to the public; adults must accompany children ages 9 and younger.
