The Times Wins Three NLGJA Awards

We are thrilled to announce that The Times won three Excellence in Journalism Awards from NLGJA: The Association of LGBTQ+ Journalists for work published in 2023.

Jenna "J" Wortham was recognized for Excellence in Long Form Journalism for "Want to Love Your Body? Try Swimming Naked." For the Magazine's Voyages issue, they traveled to Zipolite beach in Oaxaca, Mexico, and wrote an essay that explores the rich lineage and necessity for queer waterfronts and gay beaches, tethering Mexico to Riis Beach, Provincetown, Mass., and beyond.

Lydia Polgreen was recognized for Excellence in Opinion Writing, for her essay "Born This Way? Born Which Way?," in which she explores gender identity through her own experience.

Stephen Tayo, an artist based in Lagos, Nigeria, was recognized for Excellence in Photojournalism for his photos in "The Thrift Market," from the Where We Are series. The story celebrates the joy that young people in queer communities in Africa have found through sports, fashion and friendship.

Congratulations to all! Here is the full list of winners.
