On Wednesday, Nov. 20, the City of San Marcos celebrated the grand opening of Estrella Apartments - the 24th one hundred percent, deed restricted affordable housing development in the City. Estrella reinforces the City's focus on housing equity to enhance the quality of life for its diverse community. Estrella Apartments includes 94 units of deed restricted affordable housing and 2 managers units.
The City's $10 million investment demonstrates its commitment to offering safe, high quality affordable housing to families. Utilizing Inclusionary Housing funds and Successor Agency funds, the City was able to make a significant impact in securing housing for low-income families and individuals. Through the partnership between the City of San Marcos, County of San Diego, Affirmed Housing, Compass for Affordable Housing, WNC & Associates, Banner Bank, DAHLIN Group Architecture Planning, Masson and Associates and Landscape Architecture, Estrella Apartments will provide opportunities for families to thrive and discover new possibilities.
"Through strong partnerships and investments, San Marcos has the resources to welcome 94 families to the community," shared Mayor Rebecca Jones. "The City has accomplished an incredible milestone with the addition of Estrella Apartments - further securing 10% of our housing stock as deed restricted affordable housing. We want our community members to feel supported when building a life for their families and Estrella does just that for our community to foster housing security."
Estrella includes a variety of spaces, including one, two and three bedroom apartments. A community building within the development provides residents with shared amenities including a kitchenette, computer room, barbecue area and bicycle parking. Its location places residents in close proximity to several off site locations that encourage a sustainable lifestyle.
