The Fargo Public Library is excited to once again host events during Fargo's Navy Week, happening July 22-27, 2024. Navy Weeks are the service's signature outreach program, designed to allow the citizens of Fargo to learn about the Navy, its people and its importance to national security and prosperity. This will be the third time the Fargo Public Library has hosted Navy Week events. No registration is required, and all Navy Week events are free and open to the public. As part of the Fargo Navy Week celebration, several events will be held at the Fargo Public Library and its branch locations.

First, the library will host two Navy Educational Display sessions. Residents can learn more about the important work and history of the Navy when sailors visit the library. Personnel from the Navy History and Heritage Command will be on hand to share about the deep ties between North Dakota and the Navy. Sailors from the USS Constitution will talk about the oldest commissioned ship in the Navy, where they currently serve, and personnel from the U.S. Naval Meteorology and Oceanography Command will inform visitors of the importance of atmospheric and oceanographic science and the overall value of STEM education to the Navy. Two display sessions are planned: The first is Wednesday, July 24, starting at 11 a.m. at the Dr. James Carlson Library; the second is Thursday, July 25, beginning at 10 a.m. at the downtown Main Library. No pre-registration is required to attend.

Next, the library will host a concert featuring the Navy Band Great Lakes Brass Quintet on Wednesday, July 24, starting at 1 p.m. at the Dr. James Carlson Library. The free concert is open to all ages, and no pre-registration is required to attend.

Finally, area families and youngsters are invited to join us for a Sailors Read to Kids storytime featuring special guests, Navy Operational Support Center Sailors, on Thursday, July 25, starting at 10 a.m. at the downtown Main Library. The sailors will share their favorite stories as well as talk to kids about what it's like to serve in the Navy. This event is open to all ages, but is most appropriate for kids ages 3 to 7. No pre-registration is required to attend.
