Gang Assault at Brookwood Secure Center

PRESS RELEASE

On October 19, 2024, at approximately 7:30 p.m., five residents of Brookwood Secure Center assaulted a fellow resident.

Investigation determined an eighteen-year-old and a victim began to fight one another at which time four additional individuals began to attack the victim. The victim sustained serious injuries including multiple lacerations caused by a makeshift cutting weapon.

Brookwood Secure Center staff broke up the fight and rendered aid to the victim who was then transported to Albany Medical Center.

On October 21, 2024, James Gomez, age 20, Miguel Gonzalez, age 19, and two eighteen-year-olds, were arrested for Gang Assault in the 2nd degree, a class C felony, and Assault in the 2nd degree, a class D felony.

The sixteen-year-old suspect was arrested for Assault in the 1st degree, a class B felony, Gang Assault in the 2nd degree, and Assault in the 2nd degree.

All five subjects were arraigned before the Honorable Judge Brandon of the town of Claverack Court. James Gomez, Miguel Gonzalez, and the two eighteen-year-olds were remanded to the Columbia County Jail without bail. The sixteen-year-old was remanded to Brookwood Secure Center. They are next scheduled to appear before the court on October 25, 2024, at 9:00 a.m.
