On November 28, 2024, the New York State Police responded to a fatal motor vehicle crash on Interstate 87 in the city of Yonkers.

At approximately 6:23 p.m., Christopher A. Colom, age 43, of Tilson, NY, was operating a 2011 Honda Accord and broke down in the left lane of the Interstate. Colom exited the vehicle and was struck by a northbound 2002 Lexus ES 300 operated by Wilmer G. Figueroa, age 48, of Danbury, CT, who in an attempt to avoid the Accord entered the median shoulder where Colom was located.

Yonkers Fire Department and Empress EMS paramedics began life-saving-techniques upon arrival, but ultimately pronounced him deceased on scene.

This investigation remains ongoing.
