Youngkin names four to George Mason Board of Visitors

Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin on Friday, June 28, announced three new appointments and one reappointment to the George Mason University Board of Visitors(BOV), including one alumna:

  • The Honorable Kenneth L. Marcus of Great Falls, founder and chairman, the Louis D. Brandeis Center for Human Rights Under Law, and former U.S. Assistant Secretary of Education for Civil Rights. He is a distinguished Senior Fellow in the Liberty & Law Center at George Mason's Antonin Scalia Law School.
  • Jon M. Petersonof Fairfax Station, Chief Executive Officer, Peterson Companies. He has been reappointed to a third stint on the BOV, having served on the board from 2014-18 and 2020-24, including two stints as vice rector.
  • Nina S. Rees of McLean, Senior Fellow, George W. Bush Institute. She earned a master's from George Mason in International Transactions in 1993.
  • Marc Shortof Arlington, Partner, Advance Strategies, and former Chief of Staff to Vice President Mike Pence.

Members of the Board of Visitors, the university's 16-member governing body, serve four-year terms. The BOV members whose terms expire July 1 are James W. Hazel, Wendy Marquez, and Bob Witeck.
