Cane River Creole National Historical Park will host two days of family and youth activities this month!

Saturday, September 21 - Field Day
Come play some games out at Oakland! There will be games and activities for children of all ages. We'll have wiffle ball, corn hole, croquet, sack races, and badminton set up and ready to go!

This FREE event will be held at Oakland Plantation from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. Participants are encouraged to dress appropriately for weather and walking conditions. Pack a picnic lunch and drinks and enjoy a picnic at the covered pavilion or outdoor picnic tables. Volunteers are needed to assist with games and activities! Saturday, September 28 - Youth Fishing Clinic
Is your child interested in learning to fish? Come to Oakland Plantation to learn the fundamentals of fishing and more about fish with staff from the park and the Shreveport Aquarium. Learn basic fishing techniques and ethical angling practices through the Let's Go Fishing Junior Ranger program. Earn your Junior Ranger Angler badge! All fishing equipment will be provided. Fishing is catch-and-release only. Fun for the whole family and a great way to celebrate National Public Lands Day!

This FREE event will be held at Oakland Plantation from 10 am to 11:30 am. The clinic is limited to twenty participants. Oakland Plantation is located at 4386 Highway 494, Natchez, LA. Reservations are required and can be made by calling 318-352-0383 x316 or by emailing [email protected].

*A Basic Fishing License is required for adults (16 years+) who would like to participate in fishing. Visit: wlf.louisiana.gov to learn more.

The grounds of Oakland and Magnolia Plantations are open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Nearly 70 original buildings remain, many open for self-guided tours including several that are historically furnished from Wednesday through Sunday. Park staff conducts tours of the plantation grounds daily Wednesday through Sunday. In addition, the park offers tours on the NPS App. The Oakland Main House is open for self-guided tours from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
