Date Announced for the Inquest into the Death of Dustin McMillan

Dr. Richard Wells, Regional Supervising Coroner, Central Region, Toronto West Office, announced today that a date has been scheduled for the inquest into the death of Dustin McMillan.

Mr. McMillan, 36 years old, died on June 29, 2018, while in custody at Toronto South Detention Centre. An inquest into his death is mandatory under the Coroners Act.

The inquest will examine the circumstances surrounding Mr. McMillan's death. The jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing further deaths.

The inquest will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, September 9, 2024. Dr. Geoffrey Bond will be the presiding officer and Julian Roy will be the inquest counsel.

The inquest is expected to last five days and hear from approximately eight witnesses.
