What is your job title, and what do you do specifically? As a sustainment specialist, it is my job to meet and surpass current and upcoming demands required to maintain supportability of the Air Force F-16 Fighting Flacon. I communicate with planners from the Air Force and DLA to ensure all routes are taken to maintain inventory.
What do you like most about your job and why? I love the team I am on and the support they have given to me. I have always enjoyed learning new things and pushing myself out of my comfort zone. Having an amazing and supportive team makes learning new and tough things more of a challenge and exciting - and less like work!
What do you see as your biggest challenge right now? It has been a learning experience to see supportability through a different lens. Formerly, I was a customer support specialist, and I would respond to emergency retail buys and customer direct issues. Sustainability is more of a preventative maintenance.
What are your best practices for achieving goals or accomplishing tasks? By always speaking up and asking questions in pursuit of learning more, I am able to push my knowledge further to provide better service to the Air Force customer and ensure that the warfighter has the tools they need when they need it.
If you could pick a personal motto, what would it be? I would say the world can be amazing when you're slightly strange. My mom has always said I was strange because I didn't care if my clothes matched and my bold colors reflected my personality. I also sing and dance when and where I want to, making friends with people along the way. My 15-year-old son will sing along with me sometimes. I have always told him that having a strange mom helps build character. Don't take yourself too seriously, and have a little fun with life because it makes every day just feel a little lighter and brighter.
What is your favorite military aircraft? When I was a child, my mom was a K-9 officer in the Air Force, and she would take me to the airshows to see the planes. I learned around that time that the retired Air Force SR-71 Blackbird could outrun missiles - I was hooked! She even bought a T-shirt for me with an SR-71 Blackbird that I still have packed away. I wore the shirt all the time, and it is still my favorite aircraft today.
