Project information:
This approximately $112 million investment (including a $73 million Bridge Improvement Program (BIP) grant from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law) will include demolishing the aging structure and building a new bridge. The new bridge will be a safe and reliable crossing over the Saginaw River that will include a new 8-foot-wide shared-use path.

Work is being done in three stages:

  • The first stage consisted of detour route improvements to Henry and Wenona streets performed in September through late October.
  • The second phase includes demolishing and rebuilding the bridge starting Dec. 2 and lasting up to 30 months. Lafayette Street will be closed from Evergreen Drive to Water Street during this time.
  • The final stage includes two months of testing. The new bridge will be open to traffic during that time.
