Sen. Fontana Announces $1 Million for Community Facilities Projects

Allegheny County - October 11, 2024 - Today, Senator Wayne Fontana announced two $500,000 grants for multi-purpose community facilities awarded to organizations in the 42^ndSenatorial District.

Focus On Renewal in Stowe Township and the Hill House Renovation in the City received $500,000 each for projects to construct, acquire, or improve facilities that are, or will be open to the public and will directly enable work, education, and health monitoring.

"Highspeed internet access is essential in today's world," said Sen. Fontana. "And this money-championed by the Biden-Harris Administration-will provide this access. When I voted to create this program, these are exactly the types of projects I had in mind to make the most impact in our communities."

The Pennsylvania General Assembly created the COVID-19 ARPA Muti-Purpose Community Facilities Program using money provided to the commonwealth under the Biden-Harris Administration's American Rescue Plan Act.

The grants are designed to support key projects in local communities and help connect Pennsylvanians to the internet at public-facing facilities such as schools, local libraries, and community health centers.

In total, 49 projects in 26 counties were awarded a total of $45 million by the Pennsylvania Broadband Development Authority. You can learn more about the awardees and the COVID-19 ARPA Muti-Purpose Community Facilities Program here.
