Portions of Jefferson Street and Boucher Avenue in Eastport to Close for Three Weeks for Sewer Relining
ANNAPOLIS, MD (December 2, 2024) - The Annapolis Department of Public Works (DPW)'s contractor, AM-Liner East, Inc., and subcontractors, will inspect and rehabilitate approximately 1,700 feet of sewer mains on Boucher Avenue between President Street and Windsor Avenue in Eastport. The work will begin on Tuesday, December 3, 2024 and take approximately three weeks to complete. Please note:
Jefferson Street between Boucher Avenue and Windsor Avenue will be closed except to residents with driveways. Emergency vehicles will not be able to pass.
Boucher Avenue will be closed at Jefferson Street except to residents of the immediate area. Traffic will be detoured at Adams Street and President Street. Emergency vehicles will not be able to pass.
Notices have been distributed to residents in the impacted neighborhood.
The City of Annapolis maintains more than 125 miles of sanitary sewer mains and operates 26 pump stations to safely convey wastewater. DPW teams regularly inspect sewer mains using closed circuit TV. Lines that require repair due to leaks, cracks, and root intrusion may be candidates for a minimally disruptive rehabilitation method known as "cured-in-place pipe" (CIPP) lining, a trenchless method for rehabilitating pipes that involves installing a flexible liner into the existing pipe and hardening it from the inside to create a sturdy new pipe. The process can extend the life of aging infrastructure up to 50 years. The work does involve heavy equipment and the installation of bypass piping, requiring the closure of the roadway.
In the last Fiscal Year, the Department of Public Works performed closed circuit TV inspections on 20,000 feet of sewer mains and 12,000 feet of sewer mains were relined.
