Cole Neff '20 says that, after graduating from Bloomsburg University, he felt prepared to enter the teaching profession as an elementary and special education teacher. Now an elementary learning support teacher for the Reading School District, Neff did not allow much time before returning to campus to assist fellow Huskies in finding their place in the teaching profession.

As a student, Neff recalled having a good rapport with his professors, who prepared him academically and professionally for the demands of the profession. He also attributes his confidence and preparedness to his involvement with various student organizations such as the Husky Ambassadors, Husky Orientation Welcome Leaders (HOWLs), and the education learning community. A bonus to his volunteer experience was the opportunity to reconnect with some of his mentors.

"I felt prepared for the workforce because of all of the wonderful professors that I had as well as all of the opportunities that I took advantage of," said Neff. "They helped me prepare for my future in so many ways, and it was wonderful to see those who had positively impacted me as a student."

Though Neff has volunteered with Bloomsburg in the past, he says that his most recent experience at the Collaborating to Assist Teacher Hiring (CATCH) Conference was especially rewarding. The annual event is designed to provide current student-teachers with a last-minute confidence boost as they begin their search for professional positions. Neff assisted in resume reviews, mock interviews, and an alumni panel.

"The mock interviews were my favorite part," said Neff. "The students I met were all professional. They all answered the questions and were able to elaborate. It was a great opportunity to help our future teachers and prepare our field's next group of employees. It's such an easy and rewarding way to give back."
