Long Beach, CA -The City of Long Beach Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine's Homeland Cultural Center presents DanceFest, a showcase of cultural class offerings all on one stage, taking place Friday, Aug. 9, 2024, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Cesar E. Chavez Park Amphitheater (401 Golden Ave.).

"DanceFest is a great way to spend a summer evening outside, enjoy a variety of cultural performances in art, music and dance, and get to know your neighbors," said Mayor Rex Richardson. "We will continue to offer free, fun and family-friendly activities for residents to enjoy all summer long."

During DanceFest, attendees will enjoy performances by community groups from the Homeland Cultural Center, including Popping & Locking, Breakdance, drumming, poetry, Aztec dance, Khmer martial arts and dance, West African dance, Hmong arts and Micronesian arts. Concert goers are encouraged to bring blankets, chairs and picnic dinners to enjoy while they watch. DanceFest began in 2005 and was held annually until 2019. This is the event's first return post-pandemic.

The Homeland Cultural Center hosts a variety of classes and is a place for people of all ages to explore and pass on traditional and contemporary cultural traditions. Free programs are offered year-round in urban and traditional arts, including dance, music, art and movies. The center is also the site for poetry readings, theatre presentations, performances of dance and music, and cultural celebrations.
