Department of Fine Arts to showcase student artwork

Waynesburg University's Department of Fine Arts will exhibit student artwork in the Benedum Fine Arts Gallery from Monday, Nov. 25, until Friday, Dec. 6, with an opening reception on Monday, Nov. 25, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.

Gallery hours are Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., and the exhibit is open to the public.

Students from the art classes offered this semester will showcase their artistic growth through displaying the artwork created in those courses. The courses include ceramics, sculpture, jewelry and metals, drawing and design fundamentals, digital prototyping and typography.

Lisa Rasmussen, gallery director and assistant professor of fine arts and communication, hopes the art show will leave students feeling proud of their achievements and motivated to create more in the future.

"I hope that students who have work in the exhibit will feel proud of the work they have done and be inspired to make more art," she said.

More than just a display of hard work and dedication, it is a chance for students to support their peers' creative endeavors and allows students to explore the work produced in visual arts courses, offering inspiration to create their own works or explore future courses.

"It would be nice for other students to come to see the work in the exhibit for two reasons. First, they will be supporting their fellow students' endeavors. Second, they will get an idea of the types of work that is created in the visual arts courses and maybe be inspired to try taking a class or making art on their own," Rasmussen said.
