MSUM Hosts Constitution Day Panel on Voter Engagement

MSUM is hosting "Constitution Day: A Panel on Voter Engagement and the Role of College Campuses in Elections" on Monday, Sept. 16, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in room 209C of the Livingston Lord Library, 700 13th Street South, Moorhead.

The free public event will explore the issue of voter engagement and highlight the influential role college campuses and students play in shaping the future of our democracy.

Constitution Day commemorates the signing of the U.S. Constitution in Philadelphia on Sept. 17, 1787. The panelists will explore the ongoing evolution of voting rights and access, focusing on the challenges of engaging college students in the electoral process and discuss how campuses can be vibrant centers for civic engagement.

MSUM President Tim Downs will welcome attendees, followed by a discussion with the following panelists:

  • Martha Castañon, an accredited representative and legal assistant with the Immigrant Law Center of Minnesota and Secretary of the Minnesota Council on Latino Affairs.
  • Dr. Barbara Headrick, MSUM professor of Political Science and President of the League of Women Voters of North Dakota.
  • Bailey Stickney, board member of the League of Women Voters of the Red River Valley.

A reception will follow the panel presentation, offering opportunities to continue the conversation and network with others interested in civic participation.

The League of Women Voters of the Red River Valley will be available to provide information on how to engage during the election season.

MSUM is committed to creating an inclusive and accessible event. If you need a reasonable accommodation to attend this event, please contact Chuck Eade at [email protected]. You will be contacted individually to discuss your request.
