BDCB Introduces New Mono-ply Plated Steel Coins in Circulation

Brunei Darussalam Central Bank (BDCB) will introduce a new metal composition for the coins in circulation. The coins will be made from mono-ply plated steel compared to the current type, which is made from homogenous cupronickel metal.

The new coins have a single, thick layer of plated metal over steel, using plating technology to ensure greater durability, strength, and safety.

The new coins will maintain the same size, weight, and design as the existing coins. All previously issued coins remain legal tender and can continue to be used alongside the new coins.

As the issuer of Brunei Darussalam currency, BDCB prioritises maintaining banknotes and coins that are of the highest quality, durability and security.
