Congressman Cohen Announces $1 Million EPA Grant to Address Chronic Dumping

MEMPHIS - Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) today announced that the City of Memphis will receive a $1 million grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Environmental Justice Government-to-Government Program to develop a model program to address chronic dumping in distressed neighborhoods. The funding is intended to address dumping in the North Memphis neighborhoods of Klondike, Binghampton and Frayser and the South Memphis neighborhood of Whitehaven.

The program funding comes from the 2022 Inflation Reduction Act that only Congressman Cohen in the current Tennessee Congressional delegation voted for.

Congressman Cohen made the following statement:

"Chronic dumping in the Klondike, Binghampton, Frayser and Whitehaven neighborhoods has been a public health and aesthetic issue for some time. Cleanups are expensive, so I'm pleased this EPA investment will begin to reverse the problem and lead to a better quality of life for residents."
