USM PENANG, 20 November 2024 - Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) continues the Convocation Ceremony with the 2nd Session on Wednesday morning.
Presided by USM Pro-Chancellor, Tan Sri Dato' Dr. Jegathesan Manikavasagam, the session sees 549 postgraduate students receiving their Doctorate degrees in various fields of study.
Jegathesan, who presented the degrees, began by congratulating the students on their success following years of hard work and determination.
He also reminded the students not to forget the support given to them throughout their academic journey by their parents, family members and the lecturers.
"Many of the research done by postgraduates would require them to identify issues and offer solutions, especially those that would be impactful to the society at large," he added.
Jegathesan said, "Researchers should conduct their work in an honest and professional manner with full integrity to ensure that the research they carry out is reliable and trustworthy."
He also said that, upon convocation, the graduates are now regarded as members of the university alumni, as well as 'ambassadors' of the university. Both their achievements and the progress of the university would be greatly intertwined.
"Therefore, the convocation ceremony should be considered as a new beginning in another phase of their lives."
In quoting Steve Jobs, Jegathesan said: "Your work will be a major part of your life. Love what you do and see it as something that you can be proud of."
Others present at the ceremony were the USM Vice-Chancellor, members of USM Board of Governors, Deputy Vice-Chancellors, Directors of USM Branch Campuses, members of the USM Senate, along with other key university officials.
The USM 62nd Convocation Ceremony, held at the Main Campus, will run from 19-26 November, 2024.
