Mono County Board of Supervisors Honors Veterans by Participating in Operation Green Light; Courthouse and Civic Center to be Lit Green to Honor American Heroes

MONO COUNTY, Calif. (NOVEMBER 5, 2024) - Earlier today, the Mono County Board of Supervisors adopted a Resolution proclaiming Mono County's participation in Operation Green Light, a nationwide effort by counties, the National Association of Counties (NACo), and the National Association of Veterans Service Officers, to show support for veterans and raise awareness around the resources available at the county, state, and federal levels to assist veterans and their families. Operation Green Light provides the opportunity to showcase the County's unwavering support for our nation's veterans by lighting the Bridgeport Courthouse and Mammoth Lakes Civic Center buildings green November 5-11, 2024. Mono County's goal is that by shining a green light on Mono County government buildings, our veterans will know that they're seen, appreciated, and supported in our community.

"Mono County has an immense amount of respect, admiration, and gratitude for all the men and women who have selflessly served the United States of America. Their contributions and sacrifices have been vital in maintaining the freedoms and way of life for Mono County," said Supervisor John Peters, Chair of the Mono County Board of Supervisors. "We will never be able to fully express our thanks and appreciation to our veterans. However, we hope that by participating in Operation Green Light we can remind them that we are here to help and serve them."

Now in its third year, Operation Green Light is expected to draw hundreds of counties to participate. A county's role in administering services for veterans includes County Veterans Service Officers helping fellow former service members access more than $52 billion in federal health, disability and compensation benefits each year, as well as other services supporting the approximately 200,000 service members who transition into civilian communities annually.

In observance of Operation Green Light, Mono County encourages its citizens to join in the tradition of recognizing the importance of honoring all those who made immeasurable sacrifices to preserve freedom by displaying green lights in a window of their place of business or residence. Mono County thanks our local veterans for their help in protecting the life and liberties of the United States of America.
