Narek Babayan: Iran has been and remains a special partner for Armenia

Iran has been and remains a special partner for Armenia, which with its balanced policy promotes the establishment of peace and strengthening of stability in the region, welcoming the parliamentary delegation of the Majlis of the Islamic Republic of Iran (IRI) in the parliament: The member of the NA Armenia-Iran Friendship Group Narek Babayan said.

Congratulating Ara Shahverdyan on being elected Head of the Iran-Armenia Friendship Group of the IRI Majlis, Narek Babayan expressed conviction that a new page will be opened between the parliaments of the two countries with joint efforts based on partnership and great perspectives.

"Armenia highly appreciates the brotherly attitude of the authorities and people of Iran towards the Iranian Armenians. I am glad that the deputy of Armenian origin leads the Iran-Armenia Friendship Group," Narek Babayan said. Underscoring that the Armenian-Iranian good neighbourly relations distinguish with special warmth, mutual trust and respect characteristic to two peoples, Narek Babayan highly assessed the position expressed by the leadership of Iran on the territorial integrity and the inseparability of borders of Armenia.

Thanking the Armenian side for warm reception and congratulations, Ara Shahverdyan noted that the parliaments of the two countries in the name of the Friendship Groups will continue making their efforts in the development and strengthening of bilateral relations.

Ara Shahverdyan informed that within the framework of the EAEU-Iran Business Dialogue programme the delegation being in Armenia had a number of important meetings and discussions. Both sides highlighted the increase of the RA-IRI trading volume in developing the volume of economic cooperation.

The members of the RA NA Armenia-Iran Friendship Group, the deputies of the RA NA Civil Contract Rustam Bakoyan, Babken Tunyan, Vagharshak Hakobyan, Karen Hambardzumyan, Shirak Torosyan, Gurgen Melkonyan, Davit Danielyan, as well as the deputies of the RA NA Armenia Faction Irina Gasparyan, Kristine Vardanyan and Gegham Nazaryan also took part in the meeting held with the parliamentary delegation of the IRI Majlis on October 1.

Touching upon the bilateral cooperation, which includes the economic, agricultural, mining and numerous other spheres, the members of the Friendship Group underlined the readiness and efforts aimed at increasing the volumes of the trade turnover.

The issues on creating a joint free economic zone, an industrial joint city, improving the Meghri border checkpoint, the roads and reducing the Araks River pollution were discussed.

The Deputy Chair of the RA NA Standing Committee on Economic Affairs Babken Tunyan, the Deputy Chair of the Regional and Eurasian Integration Vagharshak Hakobyan, the Deputy Chair of the Protection of Human Rights and Public Affairs Rustam Bakoyan answered the questions and observations of the members of the Iran-Armenia Friendship Group, presenting clarifications on the problems impeding the increase of the volume of the trade turnover, on creating a banking flexible system, on operation of the North-South road.

Underscoring the fact of the centuries-old friendship of the two countries and emphasizing the development and deepening of bilateral relations, Gegham Nazaryan noted that the Armenian-Iranian border is one of the oldest borders of the world.
