Long-Term Care Residents Month

By virtue of the authority vested by the Constitution of Virginia in the Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, there is hereby officially recognized:

Long-Term Care Residents Month

WHEREAS, there are more than 33,000 individuals living in 350 nursing homes and nearly 38,000 individuals living in 566 assisted living facilities in Virginia; and

WHEREAS, someone turning age 65 today has almost a 70% chance of having a future need for some type of long-term care services and supports; and

WHEREAS, many residents of long-term care facilities have been life-long contributors to our society, growing businesses, raising families, serving as leaders, and adding valuable contributions to our communities, as well as future generations; and

WHEREAS, the Federal Nursing Home Reform Act of 1987 establishes a set of minimum standards of care to include protecting residents from abuse or neglect and ensuring residents receive quality care; and

WHEREAS, all residents should be aware of these standards so they may feel empowered to live with dignity and receive proper and appropriate medical treatment; and

WHEREAS, we wish to celebrate and honor our citizens by recognizing their rich individuality and valuable contributions and reaffirm that long-term care residents deserve to make choices about their daily life and care;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Glenn Youngkin, do hereby recognize October 2024, as LONG-TERM CARE RESIDENTS MONTH in the COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
