IATA Launches ONE Record Roadshows in Asia-Pacific to Accelerate Air Cargo Digitalization

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has launched a series of roadshows across the Asia-Pacific region to accelerate ONE Record adoption in the air cargo sector. The inaugural event was held in Singapore on 23 July 2024, which saw some 80 participants from airlines, freight forwarders and system providers attending the event.

"The biggest opportunity for the air cargo industry is digitalization, and one such area is the seamless sharing of digital information. The ONE Record standard has been developed to enable efficient data exchange throughout the supply chain. The next step is for all IATA members to achieve ONE Record capability by January 2026," said Vinoop Goel, IATA's Regional Director for Airports and External Affairs, Asia Pacific.

"The roadshows are an opportunity to bring together the different partners in the air cargo sector, educate them on ONE Record, listen to their concerns, and discuss opportunities for the various stakeholders to work together to deliver this important game-changer for the air cargo industry," said Goel.

The Singapore roadshow was co-organized with SAAA@Singapore, Singapore Airlines Cargo, SATS, CCN, WiseTech, and IBS Solutions, and focused on the adoption of the ONE Record standard. Attendees were provided with comprehensive insights into the benefits and implementation. Industry experts discussed key topics such as the comparison between ONE Record and traditional standards like CIMP and CXML, the practical use cases of ONE Record, and the necessary IT infrastructure for transitioning to this new standard.

The speakers at the roadshow also shared their perspectives on the ONE Record standard, emphasizing its potential to revolutionize data sharing in cargo operations. Participants gained valuable insights on the timeline for ONE Record adoption from various Singapore industry stakeholders and solution providers, recognizing that a unified effort was needed to deliver the much needed digital transformation in cargo operations.

"For any new technology or standard to be effective, it has to be widely adopted. If we are able to adopt ON Record across the industry, then we will be able to achieve the economies of scale, greater efficiencies, cost savings. The key to this is collaboration. The roadshow are a step in bringing the cargo community together on the industry priorities and standards, foster collaboration, and drive innovation in the air cargo sector," said David Wee, IATA's Regional Cargo Manager, Asia-Pacific.

Following the Singapore ONE Record Roadshow, IATA will organize similar events in Japan and Korea this year, and in other markets across the Asia-Pacific region in 2025.
