Potential for Rusty Water for Properties South of Avenue C

Due to water system maintenance, properties south of Avenue C may experience some rusty/discolored water August 5-9.

The discolored water is not a health threat. It occurs from sediment in the pipes or rust from the inside walls of cast iron water mains that may be disturbed and temporarily suspended in water with unusual water flows from maintenance. When the water is discolored it is recommended to not wash laundry. If washing laundry, use a rust stain remover or use regular detergent as long as chlorine bleach is not used as it will react with the iron to form a permanent stain. Additional information can be found online by reviewing our Rusty or Colored Water Document (PDF) on the Water page.
