FRANCINE The threat from Francine isn't over. As much as eight inches of additional rain and tornadoes are possible in Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee, Georgia and Florida over the weekend. Tens of thousands of households are without power after Francine, and many are using generators. It's critical to take precautions to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning, which can be deadly.

WILDFIRES Three devastating wildfires are still burning in southern California, leading to thousands more evacuations this week on top of the more than 100,000 people already forced from their homes by these fires. The three fires - the Airport Fire in Orange and Riverside Counties, the Line Fire in San Bernardino County, and the Bridge Fire in San Bernardino and Los Angeles Counties - have already consumed more than 113,000 acres. Experts predict southern California will see an above normal risk for wildfires through the end of the year.

Red Cross disaster teams are responding in southern California and along the Gulf Coast, opening shelters in some areas and supporting community shelters in others. In the days to come, Red Cross disaster teams will work in close collaboration with government officials and community partners to provide comfort, support and relief services to people impacted by these disasters.

FIND HELPAnyone who needs a safe place to stay or a warm meal can find service information on redcross.org, the free Red Cross Emergency app or by calling 1-800-RED CROSS (800-733-2767). In Louisiana, people can contact their local parish officials to learn about evacuation centers in their parish.

If possible, we encourage people who plan to stay in a shelter to bring prescription medications, extra clothing, pillows, blankets, hygiene supplies, other comfort items and important documents. Don't forget to bring any special items for children, such as diapers, formula and toys, or for family members who have unique needs.

We do everything we can to accommodate service animals and domesticated pets comfortably in our shelters. Sometimes, depending on the situation, pets may need to be housed in a different location with support from local partners.
