Buffalo Man Sentenced for Raping Victim

Friday, September 20, 2024

Acting Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Keane announces that Rickey D. Roberts, Jr., 29, of Buffalo was sentenced yesterday afternoon before State Supreme Court Justice Paul B. Wojtaszek. He received a determinate sentence of 12 years in prison followed by 20 years of post-release supervision. He will be required to register as a sex offender upon his release.

On Friday, December 8, 2023, at approximately 11:00 p.m., the victim was approached by an unknown male in the City of Buffalo. The defendant, who claimed he was in possession of a gun, forcibly engaged in sexual intercourse with the victim while threatening physical harm. After the sexual assault, the victim was able to seek help from Good Samaritans.

Roberts pleaded guilty to one count of Rape in the First Degree (Class "B" violent felony), the highest sustainable charge, on February 29, 2024. Today, a final order of protection was issued on behalf of the victim, which remains in effect until September 2065.

Acting DA Keane commends the Buffalo Police Special Victims Unit and Erie Crime Analysis Center for their work in this investigation.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Rebecca A. Fioravanti of the Special Victims/Domestic Violence Bureau.
