Middlesex County's Investment in The Heldrich Hotel Boosts Workforce Development

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ
(August 21, 2024) - In a move designed to transform education and career opportunities for Middlesex County residents, the County announced a $16 million investment in The Heldrich Hotel and Conference Center on Livingston Avenue.

By consolidating ownership of the iconic hotel, Middlesex County will expand its innovative economic strategy. This includes providing interactive, hands-on learning experiences for students at Middlesex College and Middlesex County Magnet Schools.

The 375,000-square-foot hotel in the heart of New Brunswick will be transformed into a professional development hub. It will offer a range of programs in hospitality, culinary arts, construction management, business administration, trades, and more. Students will learn from the expertise of experienced hotel staff while gaining practical experience.

New or enhanced curriculums will be developed to provide a clear path for County students to take advantage of this unprecedented access to work-based education at an operational hotel that will bolster the future talent pipeline in Middlesex County.

"The County's investment in the Heldrich Hotel & Conference Center, is an investment in the continued economic growth of Middlesex County and New Brunswick," said Mayor Jim Cahill. "The real-life, hands-on educational opportunities that the students will experience will prepare them for exciting and diverse careers. This is yet another example of the County's ongoing leadership in economic and workforce development."
