Wednesdays at Pete’s Place: An Art Exhibition

The Santa Fe Community Gallery will host "Wednesdays at Pete's Place: An Art Exhibition from Sept.13-27 with an opening event from 5-7 pm Sept. 13.

In an unassuming building in the midtown corridor of Cerrillos Road, the Interfaith Community Shelter at Pete's Place has provided a source of safety, shelter, and support for countless people.

Since 2022, Hernan Gomez Chavez has been coordinating art classes for the residents, bringing in various artists to share their skills with the participants. Every Wednesday afternoon, an artist and several residents gather around folding tables to draw, paint, and work with clay.

These workshops have addressed a significant need at Pete's Place. While art classes may not provide a traditional social service, these activities-whether it's drawing, working with clay, writing, printmaking, or collage work-create a space for people to come together and express themselves through art.

"Wednesdays at Pete's Place" highlights this work with a multimedia, multifaceted exhibition that includes paintings, drawings, and sculptures, as well as profiles of several participants.

This exhibit has been funded by the City of Santa Fe Arts Commission's Art is the Solution fund for artists.
