TROPICAL STORM HELENE UPDATE #1:

TROPICAL STORM WARNING FROM SEPTEMBER 25-27

DAVIE, Fla. - The Town of Davie is monitoring Tropical Storm Helene. A tropical storm warning and flood watch is in effect for South Florida, including Davie as heavy rainfall and wind pushes through the region beginning today, September 25 through Friday, September 27, 2024.

The National Weather Service has advised that there is the potential of 2-4 inches of rain resulting in possible local flooding, wind gusts, and a marginal chance of tornadic activities.

Residents are advised to secure any loose objects around their property in anticipation of the strong winds expected and limit outdoor discretionary activities.

Please monitor the National Weather Service and/or your local news stations to stay up to date on the latest weather conditions.

Town Operations

There are currently no changes to the Town's municipal operations. The Town's Public Works Stormwater Drainage Division will continue to inspect and remove debris from Town-maintained storm drains.

District Water Bodies

The Town of Davie is working with the South Florida Water Management District and Central Broward Water Control District to ensure that respective water bodies are being lowered in anticipation of Tropical Storm Helene.

Parks and Playground Closures

Town staff will conduct a rapid impact assessment of all Town parks and playgrounds to ensure the amenities remain accessible for use.

If you experience flooding in your home:

Tips to consider should you experience flooding in your home:

  • Stay out of the residence.
  • Do not try to pump the water out.
  • Let the water go down on its own.
  • Stay out of the water - do not walk into the water for any reason.
  • There may be sewage in the water so use good hygiene if you touch the water.
  • The Town of Davie does not pump water out of private properties or residences.
  • Leave your wet/damaged items in the residence until the event is over and the water subsides.
  • For insurance purposes, consider documenting everything that is damaged - make a list and take photos if possible. This is best done once the flooding has stopped and the water has receded.

Residents are strongly urged to remain vigilant and monitor weather forecasts through the week. While the Town of Davie is committed to ensuring the safety of all people, we are asking our residents to help us by reviewing and preparing to implement your emergency plans. Knowing your risk, getting prepared and staying informed are just a few steps you can take.

To stay up to date on the latest updates regarding this weather phenomenon and its impact on Davie, please register for news and announcements and ensure your information is updated in the Town's emergency alerting system, Everbridge.
