International Acknowledgements: Francesco Lamperti, Associate Professor of Economic Policy, receives the European Association of Environmental and Resource Economists (EAERE) award for research excellence with the ERC Starting Grant FIND project

Another International Acknowlegment for Francesco Lamperti, Associate Professor of Economic Policy at the Institute of Economics of the Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna and member of the Department of Excellence L'EMbeDS. The professor has been honored with the prestigious "EAERE Award for ERC Grants Laureates in the Field of Environmental and Resource Economics" by the European Association of Environmental and Resource Economists (EAERE). This annual recognition is awarded to ERC grantees distinguished for the excellence of their research. It acknowledges Professor Lamperti's significant contributions to the development of innovative methodologies for analyzing complex environmental issues.

Professor Lamperti was awarded for his project FIND (Finance and Innovation to Couple Negative Emissions and Sustainable Development). The project stems from the understanding that current global climate action is insufficientto meet the objectives of the Paris Agreement. Limiting global warming to 1.5 °C will likely require the deployment of carbon dioxide removal technologies. However, these technologies are currently immature, risky, and highly debated. Understanding the effective diffusion potential of carbon removal methods and their socioeconomic and environmental impacts is crucial for designing future climate actions.

The FIND project aims to ensure that negative emission technologies enable rather than hinder long-term sustainable development. It integrates various disciplines-including climate science, economics, innovation studies, climate finance, integrated assessment, and agent-based modeling-into a cohesive and synergistic whole. FIND is designed to provide groundbreaking evidence on two crucial and under-explored aspects of carbon removal solutions: (i) how their techno-economic paradigms evolve in relation to the broader technological landscape, and (ii) how immature and uncertain technologies can be financed to provide social value rather than speculative interest. By combining innovation, finance, and political economy into a quantitative theory of carbon removal operationalization on a global scale, FIND will advance the state-of-the-art in climate-energy-economy modeling and reassess decarbonization pathways. The project will evaluate climate and non-climate policies to create robust, no-regret policy portfolios that support a rapid and sustainable path to a net-zero society. FIND will be highly relevant for public policy and civil society, especially considering Europe's commitment to achieving carbon neutrality by 2050 while promoting green and inclusive growth.
