Practice hack: how to review previous lessons on Duolingo

Serious language learners know the importance of reviewing old content! This practice helps you remember vocabulary and grammar through repetition so that you are ready to use everything you've learned when you need it.

In addition to building personalized practice into your learning path, Duolingo gives you the ability to review previously-seen content whenever you want. Here's how!

Find your section in the course

First, find your current place in the course. Click on the colorful unit label that includes the section number, unit number, and unit name. Unit labels come in many colors-the one in the example below is the orange rectangle at the top of the screen.

When you click on the unit label, you'll see your current section in the course, along with those you've already completed and those that follow where you are now.

Go to other sections of the course

Next to each section you'll see its CEFR level-the international proficiency standard we use to design our courses-and you can click on the right side of the section label for "See details," to learn more about the vocabulary and grammar it covers.

For example, in the French course for English speakers, Section 2 is part of the A1 content, and negation is one of the grammar concepts you'll study in those lessons.

If you want to return to the units in a section, click on the left side of the section label to open that part of the course. To return to your current place in the learning path, simply click on the "X" at the top left to close the section list.

Learning when you want, how you want!

Duolingo gives you control over whether you want to learn new content and move down the learning path or review targeted grammar and vocabulary topics.
