Victory Outreach Provides Shelter and Resources

PALMDALE, CA - The City of Palmdale has designated Victory Outreach, located at 37419 25th St. East, as a warming center available and open to all ages when temperatures fall below 32 degrees. It is currently open daily from 6 p.m. to 7 a.m. through Saturday, Dec. 16. Transportation to Victory Outreach is available by calling 661/733-3823.

In addition, Advancing Communities Together has opened an emergency winter shelter at 38626 9th St. East in collaboration with the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA). The shelter is open Monday through Friday, 5 p.m. to 7 a.m., and 24 hours on Saturdays and Sundays. The shelter has 20 beds for men and 15 beds for women, available to individuals 18 and older. Transportation to the center is available by calling 211. For more information, call 661-266-8900.

Overnight temperatures in the High Desert can drop significantly during the winter months, even as daytime temperatures remain warm and pleasant. Extremely cold air combined with brisk winds can result in dangerously cold wind chill values. People exposed to the harsh cold are susceptible to hypothermia, which occurs when the body loses heat faster than it can produce it.

The City urges residents to take precautions during these extreme temperatures. For more information, visit ready.lacounty.gov/cold. Los Angeles County residents and business owners, including people with disabilities and others with access and functional needs, may also call the toll-free 2-1-1 number for emergency preparedness information and referral services. It is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. 211 LA County services can also be accessed by visiting www.211la.org.
