Gaza – Death of Yahya Sinwar (17 October 2024)

Yahya Sinwar, the head of Hamas and architect of the worst anti-Semitic massacre since the Holocaust, is dead. Our thoughts are with the 1,200 victims of the despicable terrorist attack of 7 October, in particular our 48 compatriots who died on that day or in captivity, the hostages still being held in Gaza and all their loved ones in Israel, France and elsewhere.

Yahya Sinwar's death must enable a line to be drawn under the war in Gaza: all the hostages must be released without delay and there must be an immediate ceasefire and a massive influx of humanitarian into the enclave, so that the path of reconstruction and peace can be taken.
