BAMBI in the Category “Comedy” Goes to Teddy Teclebrhan

Teddy Teclebrhan began his career 15 years ago under the stage name 'Teddy Comedy' - and the name still holds true today. Teclebrhan is now one of the most successful entertainers in Germany, captivating millions both on-screen and live on stage with his improvisational talent and remarkable ability to embody a wide range of roles and personalities. The BAMBI 2024 in the Comedy category is being presented to Tedros 'Teddy' Teclebrhan.

"No one is immune to Tedros 'Teddy' Teclebrhan's humour. He is a master at using role play to unmask social stereotypes. When he takes on the persona of an individual with an immigrant background, he confronts us with a caricature that may feel all too familiar. His characters - whether it's the Swabian grumbling about foreigners or the self-important hipster - are exaggerated clichés brought to life. With his highly improvised performances, the audience never knows what to expect; he refuses to adhere to formulaic punchlines, constantly subverting expectations. The result is a liberating laughter that is often deeply unifying."

Tedros Teclebrhan was born in 1983 in what is now Eritrea. When he was just seven months old, his mother fled the Eritrean War of Independence with him and his two older brothers. Now 41, Teclebrhan grew up in Mössingen, a town in the Baden-Württemberg, Germany, and later attended the 'CreArte' acting academy in Stuttgart after completing his civil service.

Teclebrhan's first TV appearances came in 2009, where he played a gas station owner in the SWR show Laible und Frisch and a drug dealer from the Rhineland in the ZDF crime series Kommissar Stolberg. That same year, he joined the cast of the musical Hairspray in Cologne, showcasing his talents as a singer and dancer. In 2011, Teclebrhan released the six-minute short film Umfrage zum Integrationstest (was nicht gesendet wurde) on YouTube, which has since garnered 46 million views. He also won the ZDFneo TVLab competition in 2011, securing a slot for The Teddy Show. The following year, he went on tour with his comedy show The Teddy Show - Was labersch du...?!

In 2015, Teclebrhan starred alongside Fahri Yardim and Sido in the feature film Halbe Brüder. Over the following years, he appeared in the acclaimed film Systemsprenger and the TV series Bad Banks. In 2021, he became part of the ProSieben show Wer stiehlt mir die Show, and twice participated in LOL: Last One Laughing (Prime Video), where his comedic antics drove his fellow comedians to the edge. Since 2024, Teclebrhan has been starring in The Teddy Teclebrhan Show on Prime Video, where he continues to showcase his versatility as a comedian, singer, and dancer.
