Asian Agri, Tanoto Foundation, and Medan City Health Office Host The Second “Medan Sehat Bersama” in Thamrin Plaza

Medan, 12 June 2024 - In collaboration with the Medan City Health Office, Asian Agri and the Tanoto Foundation host the second "Medan Sehat Bersama" event at Thamrin Plaza, Medan, North Sumatra. This free health check-up event was conducted for two days, from 12-13 June 2024.

During the two-day event, residents of Medan received free health screenings, including blood pressure checks, blood sugar level tests, tuberculosis (TB) screenings, and antenatal care for pregnant women. Additionally, the Medan City Health Office provided health education on maintaining a balanced healthy lifestyle and early prevention of stunting.

Head of the Medan City Health Office, Taufik Ririansyah, stated, "The Medan City Government is currently intensifying health screenings in the community as an early detection effort, especially for TB, which we aim to eliminate, and non-communicable diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, hypertension, cancer, and others. Generally, people only seek medical attention when their condition has become severe, due to the habit of visiting the doctor only after severe symptoms appear," he explained.

Taufik further added that the government is currently conducting direct health screenings within the community to detect and treat diseases more promptly. For example, early detection of TB can prevent its spread. In addition to TB treatment, they are also conducting screenings for pregnant women to prevent stunting in children from an early stage.

Taufik expressed his gratitude for the excellent cooperation from the Tanoto Foundation, Asian Agri, and Thamrin Plaza, saying, "Thank you very much for your support in facilitating this two-day event. We hope that the community can derive the greatest benefit from this initiative. Hopefully, this good collaboration can continue in the future."

During the event, Regional Lead of Tanoto Foundation North Sumatra, Jeffrey Jeo, emphasized the importance of raising community awareness about the necessity of regular health check-ups and early stunting prevention. "This aligns with one of our program's focal points, which is to assist the government in reducing stunting. We are pleased that this health screening and education activity can be carried out again for the residents of Medan at Thamrin Plaza. We hope this initiative will be beneficial for the community and reach more participants than previous implementations," explained Jeffrey.

Furthermore, Manager of Sustainability Operations and CSR at Asian Agri, Putu Grhyate Yonata Aksa, stated, "This is the second time we have organised the Medan Sehat Bersama event in collaboration with the Medan City Health Office and the Tanoto Foundation, held at Thamrin Plaza. The purpose of this two-day event is to help the residents of Medan maintain good health, including adults, pregnant women, and children, to prevent stunting. This aligns with our company's philosophy, which is that the presence of the company should bring benefits to the community, or 'good community' aspect."

Previously, Asian Agri and the Tanoto Foundation, in collaboration with the Medan City Health Office, held a similar event at Thamrin Plaza for two days in March 2024. During that event, health officials from the Medan City Health Office successfully conducted health screenings for approximately 400 visitors.
