MWC Las Vegas 2024 Policy Keynotes and Panels

GSMA's MWC-24 Las Vegas, in partnership with CTIA, gathered U.S. policymakers and key wireless industry stakeholders to discuss trends and developments in government and public policy.

CTIA hosted the Everything Policy Program, focused on discussion of the importance of spectrum to America's global leadership and the policies needed to support an innovative, competitive, secure mobile ecosystem.

Panel: The National Spectrum Strategy and U.S. Leadership

Video

This discussion featured updates from key Federal and industry stakeholders on implementation of the National Spectrum Strategy, including key bands such as the lower 3 GHz and 7/8 GHz bands. Panelists discussed actions being taken to support both near-term and long-term spectrum outcomes and improve Government coordination, with a focus on steps needed to secure U.S. policy leadership in 5G and beyond.

Panel: Empowering Investment in 5G and Beyond

Leaders from Government and industry explored critical policy issues that impact the ability of wireless providers and equipment manufacturers to innovate and invest in the domestic and international 5G marketplace, including existing and emerging methods of spectrum allocation. Panelists discussed opportunities to promote the U.S. economy, national security, and global competitiveness through wireless policy, such as the development of a robust spectrum pipeline of licensed mid-band spectrum, harmonization, and restoration of the FCC's auction authority.

This panel explored the roles that industry and Federal stakeholders play in expanding our wireless 5G future, with a focus on use cases and the policies needed to promote robust 5G networks. Panelists discussed the importance of full-power licensed spectrum, the role of sharing frameworks, the role of Government funding in building out secure networks across the country, and opportunities for public-private collaboration.

FCC leaders are at the forefront of developing domestic policies that impact the commercial sector's ability to enhance and expand mobile and fixed wireless connectivity. We sat down with the agency's top advisors on critical wireless issues, ranging from consumer protection and public safety, broadband deployment and competition, spectrum policy, and what stakeholders can expect from the FCC for the remainder of the year.

Panel: The Wireless Future: A New Era in Cybersecurity Leadership

This panel explored major changes to the cybersecurity landscape across the Federal Government, and how the wireless industry is leading the response to both longstanding and newly emerging cyber threats. Panelists examined the ways that industry and Government work collaboratively to protect our networks from cyber threats, including the ongoing harmonization of Federal cybersecurity requirements. They also discussed key regulatory priorities that inform this national imperative to ensure a cohesive and robust approach to cybersecurity across both the public and private sectors.
