Celebrating Iowa’s judicial heritage: A unique mural unveiled at the Law Museum of Iowa

The Law Group of Iowa, home to the renowned Law Museum of Iowa, proudly unveils its latest artistic endeavor, "Iowa's Amazing Courthouses." This stunning mural, the brainchild of Chris Johnston, senior partner at the Law Group of Iowa, celebrates the rich judicial heritage of Iowa and aims to foster community spirit and educational growth.

The mural, a vivid depiction of Iowa's counties, features a piece of memorabilia from each county's courthouse, meticulously displayed on clear shelving aligned with its respective county. From simple postcards to ornate ceramics, each piece tells a unique story of Iowa's legal history. The mural can be viewed at the Law Museum of Iowa within the Law Group of Iowa's Windsor Heights location (7900 Hickman Road, Suite 200, Windsor Heights, Iowa).

A Community-Centered Initiative
Chris Johnston, a dedicated attorney and community leader, believes in the importance of the lawyer's role in society. "I wanted to create something that not only promotes the rich history of our state's judiciary but also provides an educational experience for our community. Our law office and museum are not just places of business; they are spaces where people can come, learn, and feel connected to their heritage," Johnston explains.

Rather than investing in traditional advertising, Johnston chose to channel the firm's marketing budget into a project that would have lasting value for the community. "Billboards come and go, but a mural like this can inspire and educate for years to come," he adds.

Educational and Artistic Collaboration
The creation of the mural was a collaborative effort, painted by two talented rising seniors from nearby Valley High School, Ava Goering and Ash Scarbrough. Their artistic vision and dedication brought the mural to life, making it a true community project.

"We are thrilled to have had the opportunity to work on such a meaningful project," says Ava Goering. "It was a unique experience to combine art with education and history," adds Ash Scarbrough. Their hard work and creativity have resulted in a piece that not only beautifies the space but also serves as an educational tool for visitors.

The Law Museum of Iowa: A Hub of Legal History
The Law Museum of Iowa, nestled within the Law Group of Iowa's office at 7900 Hickman Road in Windsor Heights, is a treasure trove of legal artifacts from around the world. It offers visitors a unique glimpse into the history of law, both in America and internationally. From ancient legal documents to contemporary legal memorabilia, the museum showcases the evolution of the judiciary and its impact on society.

"The museum is a reflection of our dedication to preserving and sharing the history of law," says Johnston. "We want people to understand the role of the judiciary not just in Iowa, but across the country and the world. It's an educational resource that we are very proud of."

Community Reactions
The mural has already garnered positive feedback from visitors. Gail Boeke, shared her thoughts: "The mural is absolutely stunning. It's amazing to see all the different pieces from each county. It really brings the history of our state to life."
