Violence Against Women and Girls Member Champion announced

A new, elected member role to raise awareness and champion action to prevent violence against women and girls has been established.

Cllr Louise Nicolas, elected councillor for Bushey North ward, has been appointed to the role by the Leader of the Council, Cllr Jeremy Newmark.

Cllr Newmark explained: "I'm delighted that Louise has agreed to take on this important new role of member champion to help us raise awareness and promote action to address violence against women and girls in our communities.

"Unfortunately, many women and girls in our borough are facing negative experiences, so it's important that we work to address the abuse and violence our mothers, sisters, aunts, daughters and friends are facing. This new member champion role shows our commitment to ensuring that women and girls in Hertsmere can live without experiencing or fearing harassment, abuse or violence from men."

Cllr Louise Nicolas added: "I'll strive to do everything I can to support the council's efforts in addressing violence against women and girls in our communities. I want to try to proactively address these issues by working closely with communities, partner agencies and local organisations to raise awareness of the issues, support victims as well as educate men and young boys about the consequences of certain behaviours and attitudes."
