Project to make improvements to roadways in Brownfield, Plains and Denver City

TERRY COUNTY - The Texas Department of Transportation is set to begin work on a project that will make improvements to major roadways in Terry and Yoakum counites. The $6 million project will mill the exiting roadways, place a new surface and restripe the road. Project limits are:

  • US 380 in Brownfield-US 62/385 to Gillham Park
  • US 82/380 in Plains-19th Street to SH 214
  • SH 83 in Denver City-Mustang Avenue to SH 214

"The project will make needed improvements to these roads that are vital corridors in their respective communities. Our contractor is scheduled to begin setting traffic and construction signs this week," said Seve Sisneros, P.E., TxDOT Brownfield Area engineer. "Pavement milling work on the project is scheduled to begin next week on SH 83 in Denver City."

Project contractor is James Hamilton Construction Co., of Silver City, NM.

Drivers should anticipate various daytime lane closures throughout the duration of the project. No nighttime closures are expected, Sisneros added.

Drivers can also expect slow moving traffic and delays, and are urged to use caution when driving through the work zones, since crews will be working in close proximity to traffic and should keep the following tips in mind:.

  • Slow down and always follow posted work zone speed limits. Speeding is one of the major causes of work zone crashes. Remember, traffic fines double in work zones.
  • Pay attention. Workers and heavy equipment may only be a few feet from passing vehicles.
  • Be patient. Delays from roadway construction can be frustrating, but it only takes a few extra minutes to slow down for a work zone.

The project is anticipated to be completed in summer 2025.
