The Tenth Judicial Circuit is pleased to announce that Circuit Judge Katherine S. Gorman was unanimously re-elected on December 2, 2024, by her fellow circuit judges to serve as Chief Judge.
She has held the position of Chief Judge since January 2021. Her new term will begin on January 6, 2025, and will run until January 4, 2027. The Tenth Judicial Circuit consists of 10 Circuit Judges, who are responsible for electing a Chief Judge every two years. In total, the Circuit includes 21 judges and serves Peoria, Tazewell, Marshall, Putnam, and Stark Counties.
A chief judge's duties include administrative work, scheduling dockets, assigning judges, and overseeing court personnel. All 24 chief judges in the State of Illinois belong to the Conference of Chief Judges, which meets frequently and whose mission is to provide continuous and stable statewide policy development and practices concerning the court system's needs under the guidance of the Illinois Supreme Court.
Judge Gorman was initially appointed as an associate judge of the Tenth Circuit on November 1, 2007. She was later elected as a circuit judge in a circuit-wide election in 2012. Currently, she presides over felony courtroom 210 at the Peoria County Courthouse and serves as the Chair of the Conference of Chief Circuit Judges.
