Statement by Mike Myers, Deputy City Administrator for Public Safety

Portland, OR - Deputy City Administrator Mike Myers released the following statement regarding recent shootings in Portland.

"Since Friday, five people died in four shootings across Portland. This is both heartbreaking and unacceptable.

"The Portland Police Bureau is conducting active investigations to determine what happened and catch those responsible. Additional resources have been deployed, including extra patrols.

"Staff from the Ceasefire Program and Office of Violence Prevention are working directly with community-based organizations to assess each situation and determine the best approach to help those impacted and reduce the risk of additional violence.

"As the U.S. Surgeon General announced in June, firearm violence in America is a public health crisis. We are committed to continuing investments in prevention, intervention, and enforcement for as long as it takes to improve safety in Portland."
