Caerphilly Council Employees Spread Christmas Cheer with ToyBox Project Volunteer Day

Posted on : 12 Dec 2024 Caerphilly County Borough Council employees, alongside volunteers from external business Willmott Dixon, came together in the spirit of giving this Christmas by supporting the ToyBox Project during a dedicated volunteer day at Penallta House. The event, held on Thursday 28th November, saw an incredible turnout, with 48 council staff members and additional volunteers from Willmott Dixon working together to check and process an impressive 270 toys, equating to around 66 hours of collective volunteering.

The ToyBox Project, a volunteer-driven initiative, aims to provide families and not-for-profit organisations with access to pre-loved toys. By refurbishing and redistributing toys, the project ensures children have access to meaningful play while reducing waste.

James, founder of the ToyBox Project, expressed heartfelt gratitude to all involved, saying: "I am absolutely blown away at what your team achieved. It's truly amazing and such a massive help to our team, service, and the children who now have access to even more toys."

Councillor Carol Andrews, Cabinet Member for Education and Communities, praised the efforts of both council staff and Willmott Dixon volunteers: "Our staff and partners have demonstrated the true spirit of Christmas by dedicating their time to such an important cause. The ToyBox Project not only brings joy to children but also highlights the value of sustainability and community support. I am so proud of everyone who participated and the positive impact this initiative will have on local families."

The day was a shining example of collaboration and the council's commitment to giving back to the community. With the festive season fast approaching, the collective efforts of the volunteers ensure that many children will have a brighter and happier Christmas.
