FASEB Seeks ECRs for Publications Committee

FASEB Seeks ECRs for Publications Committee

Friday, August 9, 2024
FASEB is seeking to deepen its reach and impact and promote the careers of early-career researchers (ECRs) by adding two ECR positions to its Publications Committee.

Role of Committee Members
The ECRs on the Publications Committee members will
  • Provide editorial guidance for developing the vision for FASEB's publications, including input on potential new products, programs, or services, new partnerships, and new strategic directions for a two-year term.
  • Work closely with the FASEB Publications staff and editors-in-chief on long-term, innovative strategic and scenario planning.
  • Advise FASEB Publications staff on ethical and legal issues developing in the industry and serve as a resource for Publications staff and editors-in-chief.
  • Review, interpret, and report on publications performance metrics semi-annually.  Monitor the longitudinal editorial performance of FASEB's publications to ensure they meet the needs of FASEB and are advancing science.
  • Regularly review existing publication policies, develop, and recommend new policies to meet the changing environment, and support efforts at improving research integrity.
  • Recommend the appointment of editors-in-chief, including appointing or serving on an editor-in-chief search.
Minimum Eligibility Requirements
  • Must be an early-career researcher working in a biological or biomedical sciences field. Early-career researchers are defined as postdoctoral scholars, trainees, or researchers within 10 years of receiving a doctoral degree. Exceptions may apply*.
  • Cannot be serving in an official capacity for another journal or publications committee.
  • Early-career researchers from historically excluded populations are particularly encouraged to apply.
  • Researchers from around the globe are welcomed, as the intent is to populate the committee with an international presence.
Selection Process
The appointment of ECRs is made by a recommendation of the Publications Committee to the FASEB Board of Directors in consultation with FASEB staff. Decisions will be communicated by October 2024. Please note there are only two (2) available positions at this time.

The criteria for selection will include:
  • Early-career researcher status, primarily postdoctoral fellows, trainees, or researchers in the first 10 years of their postgraduate career.*
  • The training and rigor of research completed by the candidate as indicated in the CV will be considered as a deciding factor. Candidates should have some experience publishing in a peer-reviewed journal.
  • The level of interest in the objectives (above), in learning more about the editorial process, journal operations, open science, and research integrity.
As part of our commitment to diversity, equity, accessibility, and inclusion, we agree to the following:
  • To recognize and actively work to interrupt bias;
  • To recognize applicants do not all have the same opportunities and consider achievements relative to opportunity;
  • To recognize the value of a diverse committee.
*We value and recognize that there may have been career interruptions that prohibit a 10-year limit. We will consider exceptions. Please include a one-line request for an exception to the 10-year limit.
