Public input sought on Route 47 bridge rehabilitation

MoDOT to host public meeting, three-week comment period

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) is hosting a public meeting and comment period for a project to rehabilitate the Missouri Route 47 bridge over Mill Creek in Washington County, north of Potosi. Interested parties will have the opportunity to learn, ask questions, and provide input about the project.

The 59-year-old bridge deck is in poor condition and showing signs that it needs to be replaced. It is narrower than today's standards, needs widened with updated bridge rail and new guardrail at all four corners. The improvement plans for the bridge will enhance safety, drivability, and traffic flow. The current plan involves closing the bridge up to 110 calendar days with a signed detour in place. Construction is expected to take place in 2025 with an estimated total engineering and construction cost of $930,000 (subject to change).

The in-person, open-house style public meeting will take place at Washington County Library (235 E High St, Potosi, MO 63664) on Aug. 1, 2024, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. There will be no formal presentation, so attendees may come and go as they please during the meeting. Members of the project team will be on hand to explain details of the proposed project, answer questions, and receive feedback from the public. Online participation is also available at https://www.modot.org/missouri-route-47-bridge-rehabilitation-over-mill-creek-washington. All displays from the meeting will be available online and website visitors may ask questions and make comments about the project via an online form during the three-week open comment period, July 25 - Aug. 15, 2024.
