TRAFFIC FATALITY - ATLANTIC AVENUE AND 53RD STREET

On April 14, 2023, at approximately 9:16 p.m. officers were dispatched to the area of Atlantic Avenue and Market Street regarding an injury hit-and-run traffic collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian, which resulted in the death of a male adult.

Upon arrival, officers located a male adult pedestrian in the center median of Atlantic Avenue north of 53rd Street. Long Beach Fire Department personnel arrived on scene and began rendering medical aid. The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital where he was treated for his injuries.

The preliminary investigation revealed the pedestrian was crossing outside of the crosswalk when he was struck by a vehicle traveling northbound on Atlantic Avenue. The drive did not remain on scene and has not been apprehended.

Detectives were notified on April 18, 2023, that the pedestrian had succumbed to his injuries.

The pedestrian's identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
