Industry Job Fair presents opportunities to TSTC students and alumni

(MARSHALL, Texas) - Texas State Technical College's Marshall campus held its Fall 2024 Industry Job Fair on Thursday, Oct. 3. A total of 41 companies presented job opportunities to 233 TSTC students and alumni.

Janzen Baldwin, a first-semester Automation and Controls Technology student, said he attended the job fair looking for any and all opportunities.

"I've been to places where they didn't have a job fair or it wasn't communicated about as much, but my instructors talked about this job fair every day before it started," Baldwin said.

Texas Materials, a building materials producer that is a subsidiary of CRH Americas Materials, sent representatives to job fairs at TSTC's Rosenburg and Waco campuses this year and plans to visit Abilene and Harlingen next. Stephen Barba, talent acquisition manager for the company's Texas region, was at Thursday's event in Marshall and said he feels confident in hiring someone with the knowledge that TSTC provides.

"We're trying to build a relationship with TSTC and wanted to get our name out there for the (students) to get to know who we are," he said.

Structural engineering consulting firm Urban Structure visited TSTC's Marshall campus for the first time. Kara Muse, office and marketing manager for the company and a TSTC alumna, had not been on the campus since she graduated 22 years ago.

"We are looking for bright young kids that can get out and start working and drafting our plans," she said. "You never know where your associate degree from TSTC will take you. It takes you far."

Karen Gabaldon, senior human resources generalist and business partner for chemical science company Sachem Inc., was representing her company at the job fair for the third time.

"The TSTC Process Operations program trains their students in alignment with what we do, so the skills they're able to learn through the program transfer exactly into the workforce," Gabaldon said.

Applications for the spring semester are being accepted. Spring registration begins Oct. 28. To learn more about TSTC, visit tstc.edu.
