The first-ever Nexus Sustainability Leaders Summit was held at the Harley Davidson Museum on Tuesday, Oct. 29 and Wednesday, Oct. 30. Marquette's College of Business Administration and The Water Council co-hosted the conference, which is a merger of the Sustainability 2.0 Conference and the Water Leaders Summit.

"We were pleased to bring hundreds of sustainability leaders from all across the country under one roof," said Dr. Chris Merker, co-director of Marquette's Sustainability Lab. "Marquette has long been a champion of sustainable business. Convening the brightest minds in sustainability to learn from each other and talk solutions is deeply aligned with our mission."

"We had high expectations when we merged the Water Leaders Summit and Sustainability 2.0 Conference, but they were met and then some," said Water Council CEO Dean Amhaus. "The stimulating panels and valuable networking contributed to a palpable energy for solving water and energy challenges."

Panelists discussed topics including the energy transition, financing for green technology, the role of artificial intelligence in energy production and climate resilience. Featured speakers held senior-level roles in organizations such as Microsoft, Johnson Controls, Ramboll and the Environmental Protection Agency.

Marquette Business held its first ever symposium on sustainable investment in 2019, bringing together experts from across the country on socially responsible investing. Since that time, more companies and organizations have adopted environmental, social, and governance criteria and sustainability standards, creating an emerging paradigm for responsible and ethical business practice moving into the future.
